“A decade-in-the-making, “Witness” is riveting and essential viewing, a taut mix of interviews, archival news footage and FBI audio and video recordings. It tells a tale that’s at once global and local, and does so with a rare, unforced intimacy, showing viewers the complicated individuals behind the headlines.” – Sara Foss, AlbanyProper.com

Please join us on June 17, 2022 at 7:00pm at The Sanctuary for Independent Media for a screening of Witness, a documentary film about the Aref-Hossain case, with filmmaker Masood Haque.
The screening is followed by a Q & A with Masood Haque and panel. This event is part of iEAR Presents! and co-sponsored by Project SALAM (Support and Legal Advocacy for Muslims), Coalition for Civil Freedoms, Capital District Coalition Against Islamophobia, and Muslim Solidarity Committee.
Join us for a Be The Media! workshop with Witness director Masood Haque as he breaks down the process of creating this film following the Aref-Hossain “sting” case in Albany from 2003-2004. Witness follows the defendants, Yassin Aref and Mohammed Hossain, in their memories of the events leading up to their arrest and subsequent years. Haque will talk about the challenges and sacrifices that had to be made to create this film, giving voice to individuals and a community that has been othered, and how he used intimate settings to humanize the subjects.
